  “We?” Julian shook free and glared at him. “I’m not doing a damned thing with you, whatever you are,” he said. “I don’t work with monsters.”

  Royce arched an eyebrow. “Monster. Is that what I am?”

  A hand clamped around Julian’s wrist and twisted sharply. A bone snapped.

  He gasped and fell to his knees, cradling his arm.

  “Listen up, whelp.” Royce loomed over him, radiating a terrible black-red light. Just like the Eclipse. “I need Mathias Bishop, and you’re going to help me capture him. Or you’ll lose everything. Your wealth, your power, your celebrity status. You’ll do what I tell you — or I will come forward to the world, as Royce Bishop, and tell them what really happened when the dragons came. Do we have an understanding?”

  Shivering all over, Julian could only manage a nod.

  “Good.” The terrible aura faded. “Now, get off the floor and bring me to wherever it is you run things from here. We have a whole lot of work to do.”

  “Really,” Julian said through gritted teeth. “Like what?”

  “Finish destroying the world, of course.” He grinned. “Son.”
